Charlotte Edith Monture Diary 1918-19

Date Created

1918-19

Description

The First World War diary of Charlotte Edith Monture is currently maintained by Monture’s descendants, as it is a fragile artifact cherished by her family. To make the diary’s text more accessible, a typed transcription produced and edited by Terri L. Monture Wicks in 1996 has been digitally reproduced for the first time. Beginning on page 15, the text is interrupted by several photographs of Monture, her fellow nurses, and the French countryside. The diary concludes after the Armistice with a short and sorrowful reflection on the devastation wrought by the war.
