Description

Ruth Loggie’s 1915-1916 diary consists of a ledger bound in deep red leather with the word “Diary” printed in gold on the cover. Each spread of two pages is divided by red lines into eight equal sections, seven of which are dedicated to the days of the week and one of which is reserved as a “Memo” space. The month and year are printed at the top of each page for quick reference. The first entry in the diary, which is surrounded by eight pages of pressed leaves, is made on page 4 for 30 January 1916; in reality, however, this is the last chronological entry of the diary, as Loggie simply reused the beginning of the ledger to continue her final January 1916 entries ending on page 101 (hence her cancellation of the printed “Saturday” and addition of the handwritten “Sunday 1916”). Her first 1915 diary entry is made on page 9 for 6 May 1915.
