Diary of Percy Puley
Percy Puley’s war diary is a spiral bound notebook with a red leather cover and 123 pages of lined paper, measuring 30 x 21 centimetres. This journal served as the repository for the lectures and hands-on drills to train military recruits. It includes diagrams, charts, and lists that illustrate the respective lesson plans. The journal’s focus on teaching recruits about gas attacks or the use of a Lewis gun gives the writing a detached, military tone throughout. Puley numbered each individual lecture so that numbering recommences with 1 where a new lecture or lesson begins.
